Looking for pattern suggestion
Hello all -
My wife and I have a store-bought quilt on our bed. You all know how that goes. We've made dozens of quilts but it seems our bed is always at the bottom of the list. Well, now the one we're using is starting to literally fall apart. We've decided we want to use our (considerable) collection of black and white fabrics to make the quilt. This only needs to be a utility quilt, but we would like it to at least look nice - it just doesn't need to be a magnum opus. We've used YBR several times and like how it turns out, but we would like something different. The Turning Twenty quilts don't really speak to us. We thought about a sampler, but not sure we can find enough blocks within our skill level for a king-size quilt. We have several books and patterns, but we're having a hard time imagining them in black and white. We could add a color or two into the mix if it would help. We both love turquoise/teal/aqua, so that would probably be the add in. Does anyone have any suggestions for us? This really shouldn't be this difficult. I'm starting to understand why we don't have a quilt that we made on our bed. Thanks, Darren |
Darren, please don't underestimate yourself. I've seen your work and know you make
beautiful quilts. Glad I'm not the only one with a store-bought quilt on my bed. LOL However, in my own defence, I have a pile of blocks ready just haven't put them together yet. Hopefully before next winter. Yeah right. The way it's going it might be 2020. Anyway, back to your question... How about a D4P or D9P? There are some 4 patch or 9 patch quilts that are easy to make and look gorgeous. If you need any help, don't hesitate. |

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I feel like we do a pretty good job of personalizing quilts and putting together a good palette, but we haven't attempted any truly difficult patterns. Thanks for your suggestions. A 9P and snowball might be nice. I also think your Bento Box avatar could be a good solution. We'll keep thinking about it and hopefully come up with something. I hope you're able to move yourself up on the list to get your quilt done soon. Darren |
Every time I think of a black and white quilt, the Night and Day pattern always comes to mind. . . .

What is the decor in your bedroom? Modern......go with Shadow Box? Antique.......Sampler? Traditional......Two Hearts Connected? I don't know if that is the proper pattern name but someone posted that one in Storm at Sea pattern in B&W with the hearts in red.

I have done a couple black and whites now. The patterns have been log cabin, star sampler (Tuxedo Stars in the Picture Gallery), and one that was Charmed Tuesday(also on here as Two quilts for my Brother and his wife). Someone posted a black and white Storm at Sea with 2 entertwined red hearts that was beautiful. There are many patterns that lend themselves to black and white. I'm sure whatever you choose will be beautiful.

Storm at Sea. You can get the paper piecing patterns for free on line. LOVE this pattern and the touch of color added looks awesome. |
I've seen a 10 minute block done in black and white with red as the triangle part that would look stunning with teal!

I love pulling up Google Images for inspiration. Here is a collection of 'black and white quilts' http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isc....0.fUhZsKO35Yc
I was thinking that a Hunter's Star might look good in b/w http://www.google.com/imgres?q=black...6&tx=109&ty=70 |
