Oh how interesting! I never knew these attachments existed. I've been toying with the idea of buying a very simple serger lately but this might be a much cheaper (and smaller to store) alternative.

As long as the brothers have an overcast stitch and foot you can use any of them, most of their 7mm machines have the feature. if you want the sidecutter to cut the fabric that is extra attachment that doesn't come with their machines

This looks like a wonderful Sewing Machine I think I will get one like it!

I have always had Singer machines. The two I currently have...one is 2 yrs old the other about 4 or 5 yrs. No trouble with either. They are not the low end machines though. If I get the low end machines I usually wear them out in a couple years. The only machine I have ever owned that is not a singer is my Topaz 20. It is 4 yrs old. I don't usually take the Singers in for repair. The repairs usually cost more that just replacing them.

My personal preference is two different machines for two different functions. My sister has the Singer with the attachments for serging, never uses them; and brings her serging to me to do for her on my Elnitalock from 1985 or so. But, Merry Christmas, and good luck in your search.

Go on e-bay or Craigs list and buy a good used serger (babylock if you can) and a brother sewing machine, you should be able do get a used one from estate sale or someone who quit sewing very reasonable and my old babylock 418 is still going strong. Try overstock too. And don't be afraid of a refurbished.

My Brother machine came with a side cutter and it has a number of overlocker type stitches if that is what you are referring to.

I have had many sergers and bought the best one that I have ever used when I retired. I have a 10 year old baby lock evolve and it is great. I use it more than my sewing machines and if it had a bigger throat, I would quilt with it as well!

I have had several machines that came with the side cutter serger-like attachment. I have to tell you that I have never used the attachment except for the one time I tried it to see what it did. It is better than nothing, but not much! If you want serged edges, you need a serger.

All I have to say is the Brother machine I had was crap, and never worked right it was bought new and my Singer has never given me any trouble.
