I saw a woman with a bag she made that she used to carry all her quilting tools to class. It had zip lock bags sewn inside - sewn to the middle - I think she had four different sizes - one of each size sewn on each side of the bag. It folded up and had a tie on it. It was so cute but she left before I got a chance to ask about the pattern. It was pretty simple but I don't make even "simple" things without a pattern.

Does anyone have this pattern?

No, I don't have it at hand or know if I could find it, but I know I have seen it and thought of making one.

You could try getting your bags together and measure, make a rectangle twice the size plus seam allowance. Put the ties between the layers and leave a small opening to turn rightside out. I would take a strip of fabic and tube it to lay down the center of the rectangle on top of the baggies. The bottom of the baggies go in the center, with the zippers to the outside edges.

I taught how to make this in a sewing class. You can start with a quilted placement, oval, square it doesn't matter. Fold it in half and add a handle on each end out of grosgrain ribbon. Fold in half and mark center line. Then on the center line arrange your zip loc bags (freezer bags are nice because they are thicker) with the bottoms overlapping in the center, zippers to the outer edge. ( have them come out both directions) Sew across all. Then take a piece of 1" wide grosgrain ribbon and cover the edges of the plastic bags, sew down both sides, fold over at the ends or wrap around the whole placemat. Add a piece of velcro on the outer edges to close and you are done! It is super simple, it is something I had my preteens do in a sewing class to give themselves a sewing bag to hold their supplies. Only straight stitch involved. Kids love it..so do adults.

I have one that my mother made for me back in the 80's...it's the placemat, but instead of ziplock bags, she used those zippered plastic pencil bags that you can put in a 3-ring binder...

Oh, I like that idea. The pencil pouches would be more durable. Thanks for sharing this idea. :-D

And you don't have to sew zippers either! ;) :lol:

Thanks Kathy - that is exactly what I wanted. The one I saw had about four different sized bags on each side (freezer bags since they are so durable) and they held sooo many of her quilting supplies.

Charlee - she didn't actually mean sewing "zippers" - she meant the "zipper" on the zip lock bag. Just don't want anyone to be confused and think they had to sew zippers into this bag - WHEw - that would be out for me. - LOL.
