Hello ladies! This is not my first quilt, but it is the first I made with paper piecing (the blocks, though, not the border). Now that the top is done, I am at a loss on how to quilt this. My usual group was cancelled due to snow, so I thought I would ask all of you since you're always so helpful to others. Thanks for taking a look!

i am green  with envy!!! gosh that's gorgeous!!!

if i had the skill - which i don't - i might do simple triangular motifs in the light areas, with a similar motif in the center. featherish fans that come to a point rather than round. the center would be square, on point. for the dark areas, i'd just do a bit of tacking to make sure the cabin logs keep their shape during use and washing.

now that you have an amateur's opinion, here's hoping our members with expert skills pile on with some better advice.

whatever you choose to do, i hope it'll be designed to show off that fabulous piecing.

Thanks all for saying. I'm going to be keeping this one for myself. My mother has taken the last three that I've made, so this one is all mine!! Thanks for the suggestions Patrice. I like the idea about the feathers. Off to the books I go to find one!

That is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. (You must have had lots of help holding it up for the picture.) I agree with Patrice's suggestion of feathers. They can look smashing on a log cabin quilt. Below is a picture I took at the 2008 Sisters Quilt show inside the Stitchin' Post quilt shop. THIS IS NOT MY QUILT!!! (I wish it were.) This is Judy Martin's Snake River Log Cabin, and it is a wonderful example of feathers in the light areas with just SID in the dark areas.

Beautiful quilt. The feathers would be so pretty in the light area.

Thanks for all your input (and thanks for the picture, Dunster!). I'll be practicing feathers this afternoon, just as soon as I finish putting together my new airlift cabinet --- Santa was very good to me this year!!
