Love, comfort we give to others, do we know how much?
 

When I starting quilting 6 yrs ago, I had no idea how much love, joy, comfort I would bring to others. My DIL cried when I gave her a quilt for Christmas a few years ago. My other DIL, said she sleeps everynite with hers. My friend curls up each and everynite with her crumb quilt! My DH enjoys his Marine quilt that he knows was made specially for him. I had made a quilt for my BIL this summer, he found comfort with it daily, nightly, and then he passed away last month. He asked the quilt go with him. He knew it was full of love. I miss him dearly, but I get comfort knowing he so enjoyed it and that it is with him. That is a few of the people who I have shared my love with. I am so blessed. I hope others feel joy in their quilting ventures.

Yes you are blessed, but so is everyone who receives one of your quilts, your a kind loving person.

It is said that in giving, we receive. I get so much joy from making quilts, and that joy is quadrupled when I see the comfort and happiness my quilts give to those who receive them. We were just visiting our daughter and son-in-law for a week at Thanksgiving. I loved seeing my almost 30-year old daughter wrap herself up in one of the quilts I have given her. And then she said "Mom, when I really miss you, I just wrap one of your quilts around me and I feel like you are here." Joy, joy, joy!!

I do so love making quilts for others!! Not sure but I hope the enjoy them!!!!!

My boys love their quilts best of any of the ones that I have gifted.

Isn't it nice to see that the family enjoys them as much as we enjoy making them?

My adult kids love my quilts and my 2 SIL's do also. My mom has 2 of mine and gets a lot of joy out of them. It is great that they appreciate them. One of my earliest quilts was made for a sister in law at the request of my brother. She said no one had ever done anything so beautiful for her before.

I truly believe that with every quilt we make we give a piece of our hearts.

I hadn't even thought of the love angle when I started making quilts (about 12 years ago), I was intrigued by the beauty of them, and perhaps the challenge. Then I realized that I couldn't get anything done w/o knowing to whom it would go. This must be a part of quilting for a lot of us. At DH's 75th one daughter had everyone who had a quilt of mine, bring it to cover the old IOOP walls. Two people, a grand neice and, later, her mom, flat out asked for a quilt (and told me what they wanted... one is my avatar) and a few weeks later a 9 year old who had been at the party, asked me if I would help her make a quilt for her grandmother's 90th birthday. I gae her buying instructions and then she and her mom stayed with us in our mountain cabin for 3 days while we made a lap rug, the girl doing almost all of the sewing. We couldn't make that party but the mom told us that when the package was unwrapped the GM just stared at it for the longest time, and then began to cry. She said no one had ever made something "just for her" before. The love a quilt can bring, for both the quilter and the recipient, is soooo powerful!
