M.C. Escher and his drawings of 3D. Could reproduce?
The artist M.C. Escher did some amazing 3-D work! Totally unbelievable. I have his book and am trying to figure out how to make a quilt using one of his designs. If anyone knows his work, any ideas on which picture I would be able to do without too many problems? I think if you put his name in the search engine, his work would pop up. I think if I made a quilt from his work, it would be so totally baffling (in a good way). And I don't know if I have to get any permission to use his work. It's been reproduced by many book companies so I wouldn't know who to ask. But, please, look up his work and see if it is do-able.

You can find a few of his drawings here. You need to click on the picture to see it bigger. http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/gallery-recogn.htm And I think I need permission.

All of Escher's work is still under copyright protection. For that reason, it cannot be reproduced in any medium. Sorry. It's quite easy to design your own tessellations and would make your quilt much more personal.

If you have EQ7 a basic drawing could be made of the designs and then by changing the lines to form blocks it would work. Some years ago I wrote to the publisher of one of Escher's books asking if I could make a quilt of one of the drawings and was given permission to use the designs to make fabric reproductions for personal use. No expiration date on the permission so I guess I still have it. I never did make one.

it generally is a simple thing to write to and ask permission to use work such as this---for your personal use- it would not cover showing it on the internet- or selling it- but you could obtain permission and make a quilt for your own pleasure.

They even have a form to ask permission on the official website

I thought someone had done a book on Escher-type quilts, been a while, not remembering clearly. Google "Escher quilts".

Looks likw too much trouble to me. Good luck if you can.

Amazing drawings and great talent. Just let them inspire you to create your own work.
