I am having trouble quilting my boarders without puckers. I make it through the body of the quilt pucker free then it is a battle when I get to the boarders. Any advice, tips, instructions would be greatly appreicated. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome to the message board.

Two posibilities:

1. You may want to use spray basting on the borders. That may help you hold them

2. Cut the borders wider than you need, quilt and trim to the desired width. You may waste a bit of fabric, but it will help until you get more practice.

With time it will be easier.

Mardie, Thanks so much. I have only known about pin basting. What is spray basting and how is it done, what brand works the best. I am willing to try anything.

Had the same problem with my borders. Basting spray helps alot. Most fabric stores have basting spray. 505 is a good one.

After you have squared the blocks before sewing them together, and then squared the corners of the sewn-together quiit, measure across the CENTER of the quilt, not the edges, to determine the length of the border. This is how you get the quilt to hang straight. It also makes the borders easier to quilt - you don't get clumps like you seem to be having. The edges may have stretched some in sewing. You can ease the edges or the border a bit to make them come out evenly. You'll find these same directions in most quilt books and on-line directions
