Machine quilting
I want to learn how to quilt on the machine with a design. What would be great for a beginner like meto practice doing. Of course I can do some what straight line and going in the ditch but want to do other designs but don't know where to start. Can someone send me in the right direction to get templates to practice.

There are lots of designs, all with video tutorial here.
http://www.freemotionquilting.blogsp...5-designs.html It might also be a good idea to practice drawing some designs on paper so you get a 'feel' for doing the lines on the machine. There are also special washable marking pens you can use to mark the fabric, though I have not yet used these myself. A Google image search can be a good way to find images/patterns that you can trace and modify for your own designs. |
I started out using stencils along the border of a quilt. It is great practice and it is along the edge so no bulk in the throat area.

childrens coloring pages. there simple you can sew right over them or trace them and there are plenty free to print on the internet. and my nieghbors boy loves them! children don't care about perfect!

I've enrolled for a class on Craftsy called Machine Quilting. It takes you to basic levels. I highly recommend it.

Cindy Needham also has a class on Craftsy that looks like it would be very helpful.
