Does anyone know how much I should expect to spend on getting the automatic thread cutter fixed on my machine? Any guesses? want to make a guess and I will send a prize to the person who comes the closest! IS that allowed here?

It is not working. Sounds like it is working but nothing moves inside.

My machine, a Janome 6500 has never had a problem until now. I am really missing it! My hubby took it with him went he went for meetings in the city. It has been gone for 3 hours.

Scrap Happy 03-15-2011 11:17 AM

I hope you get her back soon! I don’t know what the price on this would be. So I’ll take a wild guess and say $25.

irishrose 03-15-2011 11:38 AM

$70, unless it's time for her annual checkup.

scowlkat 03-15-2011 11:46 AM

I am guessing around $60. I had one for years and never had any problems. Did you maybe hit a pin or anything that could have gotten jammed into the mechanism? Will be waiting to see what the outcome is!

greenini 03-15-2011 11:52 AM

I'm going to guess on the high side and go for $80. But I hope it's not that high and I hope you get her back before you go into withdrawal symptoms!

susie-susie-susie 03-15-2011 11:53 AM

I'm guessing $65. Hope that's too high.

Mine was in the shop not too long ago and they "said" they fixed the thread cutter for $6 by replacing the felt. lol It worked for about an hour....

I hope your fix lasts longer than mine! I will guess $50. For your sake, I hope it is much less.

featherweight 03-15-2011 12:26 PM

$59.00

darlin121 03-15-2011 12:26 PM

I had mine repaired on my Ellisimo and it cost $68.00! So that's what I guess yours would be.

pocoellie 03-15-2011 12:36 PM

Year before last, mine was $89 for the part, but my machine guy didn't charge me for it. I have an elna Quilter's Dream.

hobbykat1955 03-15-2011 12:40 PM

I think it's 60 but since that's taken...I'll go with 45.00

GagaSmith 03-15-2011 12:55 PM

I'll go with $58.68. Hope it's not that much.

JeriLovesFabric 03-15-2011 01:00 PM

My guess is $75 because that's what they would charge around here to look at it. Hope it's cheaper for you...

quiltnmore 03-15-2011 01:14 PM

Sorry,

I believe my repairman said something about my part would be $90, and if you have someone look at it and put that part in . . . Maybe,it would be a small extra fee and even it out to $100.

It would be great if you have a cheaper bill and a quick return! I would miss mine too!

Best of luck!

quilt1950 03-15-2011 01:20 PM

I'm not going to quote a price, but I dropped my machine off today because I did something to the bobbin area.  $80.00 just to drop it off.

Marion Jean 03-15-2011 01:23 PM

I don't know what it will cost to fix it, but for me the thread cutter is priceless :)

vjengels 03-15-2011 01:27 PM

I just dropped off my Husky for maybe the same problem, My quote was $169.00 + parts... they'll call me & let me know... the worst part is .. ALL 3 OF MY MACHINES are down at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been 3 days, and I have the shakes, I can't sleep, ( thank Goodness I can still eat) My husband says I'm acting a little grouchy.

leakus 03-15-2011 01:29 PM

I'd say $99, mine is broken but didn't take it to the dealer yet. Let us know.

KwiltyKahy 03-15-2011 02:20 PM

I think about 150

Tilladare 03-15-2011 02:30 PM

I'll split the difference and say $125.00

Mamagus 03-15-2011 03:32 PM

I am enjoying this little guessing game. My baby is in the shop now and hubby is picking her up tomorrow after his meeting. The repairman/shop owner is returning it tomorrow if he has to order parts and we'll send it in when the parts arrive. As much as I miss the cutter I can't have the machine gone for two weeks.

It might be awhile before I announce the winner, but I have already picked out the prize!

Keep those guesses coming! Closest without going over!

You must take yours to the same place I take mine...

sewingsuz 03-15-2011 05:50 PM

I will say about $105.00.

Quiltgranny 03-15-2011 05:56 PM

It would be wonderful if it were still covered under warranty! I've had lots of trouble with mine on my Baby Lock. :? Best of luck to you.

Stitchnripper 03-15-2011 05:57 PM

I am going to guess "no charge" because I'm hoping they look in and say "Oh, this gizmo needs a little assist - there, that's that", no charge!

Jim 03-15-2011 08:00 PM

this is the exact reason I have a back up machine, I wouldn't want to be without one. I say $119.00 but hope its not

Lv2sew2011 03-15-2011 08:05 PM

I really have no ideal, Im going to guess $35.00 hope that hasnt been guessed yet...LOL

tjradj 03-15-2011 08:11 PM

since my repair shop charges $80 just for you coming in the door, I'd guess $125.00

Quiltcamp 03-16-2011 03:21 AM

It is $75.00 just to walk in the door then add cost of parts and then labor. Might bet as much as $100..... Just a guess.

east side quilter 03-16-2011 03:30 AM

Just had mine fixed. $79.95. for the part. no labor mine was under warenty.

Monie 03-16-2011 03:52 AM

$104

Yooper32 03-16-2011 03:59 AM

I am guessing $135.90 and I hope that I am very wrong for your sake.

cassie69emt 03-16-2011 04:02 AM

Well on my Brother ULT 2001 it cost about 200 so that is my guess for yours

Rumbols 03-16-2011 04:36 AM

My shop charges $69 just to drop it off and if not under wrantee (sp) you pay for parts and shipping if they have to order. Currently I have my Janome 350E machine in the shop because the embroidery arm won't retract. So I too am waiting for the 'sticker shock' bill.

Suzi 03-16-2011 04:45 AM

OK - THIS is why I only own mechanical machines. I'm going to guess $59.95 because there is a local guy around here who comes to your house and fixes your machine for $40 plus parts. I'm betting the thread cutter is simply jammed and I'm also betting that wherever your DH took your baby that they will be fair. Fingers crossed for you ......... let us know!

quilter68 03-16-2011 04:56 AM

This is my first laugh of the day- "It's been gone three hours and I miss it already'.

My guess is $40.
Edited to add: Now I have read all of the responses I think I am low. Mine was just in for general service and it came back making a noise. (cost $90 plus tax) I took it back right away. It was something with the "hook" and there was "no charge". This was Byrne's sewing in New Britain, PA. This is my favorite shop.

sylvia77 03-16-2011 05:04 AM

I feel your pain. I dropped off my machine on Feb.1st and I still haven't got it back! I would think $50.00 would be reasonable.

reginalovesfabric 03-16-2011 05:18 AM

my guess is $49.50

Jackie D 03-16-2011 05:28 AM

Lets see, you live in Canada, Im going to say about 125.00 I live about 2 hours from anywhere, so when I need my Bernina serviced the dealer does same day service. I drop it off, go shopping out to lunch, and then back to pick it up. I can't imagine leaving her there!

dojo36 03-16-2011 05:31 AM

i'll guess $65.00 just for the service call then plus parts.
