Machine separation anxiety
 

I had to take my dear little Viking to the sewing machine doctor - it was very traumatic - leaving her all alone in a strange place. :( For all the years and all the thread miles, we've never been separated before. It's been 24 hours and i'm still nervously waiting for the diagnosis. Pulled out my box of hand applique patterns last night - have to keep busy at a time like this, right? Please wish us luck for a speedy (and relatively low cost) return to normal.

I'm wishing good news for you. I have two back up machines and alternate using them. No way could I go without sewing my quilts.

I know exactly how you feel! It's like leaving your dog at a kennel for the first time - you hope they have a good experience and are actually there when you come to pick them up. One thing that alleviates the stress is to have a backup machine.

My condolences. Hopefully this will be a positive machine health experience. May it not take too long for a healthy recovery.

Well.....here is the thing that makes it worse....i DO actually have a backup machine - a Juki i got for a great price about 6 months ago but had not yet used or played with. I lent it to my DSIL - and he brought it back to me last week without the instruction booklet. He didn't actually use the machine at all - but now cannot find the envelope with the instructions / attachments ..... since murder is not an option - ok....it's an option, just not a viable one....i just keep hoping he'll find it <<< sigh >>>

I used to take mine every year to be cleaned and looked over. I hated it being gone! Now she stays home LOL

Well that reminds me of dropping my infant son off at daycare for the first time!!! (I cried all the way to work....) Just keep busy and don't worry - your little Viking will be home with Mama very soon!! :)

I really feel your pain. Took my SE in 2 weeks ago for a good cleaning; unfortunately, the "doctor" found more wrong with her. I've probably called four times to check on her. LOL AND I have a back-up that should have been the one to be cleaned and worked on, but it had been so long since I had used it, I had forgotten about its problems (noisy, sometimes, and some bobbin tension problems). The part for mine has been ordered -- hope it's not much longer -- for either of us!!

The first time (actually, the ONLY time) that I had to send my wonderful machine in for repairs, I felt like I was missing a limb.

Strange how we get so attached to an inanimate object!

So I know how you feel!

In case you're wondering what wonderfully healthy machine I have... it's a 95-80 Singer Industrial machine from the 1930's. Only does straight-stitching, only goes forwards... but most of the maintenance I can do myself and it will surely outlive me!
