Machine stitch that looks like a hand stitch
 

I have a Elna with all the fancy stitches but I have not be able to figure out how to make a straight stitch look like a hand quilt stitch. Is there a link or anyone who can help with this question..?

It's been so many years since I experimented with that stitch, I can't help. However, I just want you to know that it looks like a hand stitch only on the top; the back is pretty unsightly. For this reason the stitch is most suitable for wall hangings.

I have a Husqvarna machine that has a hand quilt stitch on it. It doesn't at all look like hand quilting. Very disappointing.

I think you have to use the transparent thread for every other stitch for it to look like handquiltiing. And only the machines that have this stitch will do it.

I have done this on my Bernina 440 QE but it was some time ago. I think one of the threads was the invisible type. Check out the Bernina website, maybe there will be some information there for you.

It's not a special stitch on my Bernina 1240; I think any machine can do it provided you can adjust the tensions correctly. The specialty stitch for it probably just presets the tensions.

Edit: I take it back about the specialty stitch, as it does look a little different than my old version.

Its a speciality stitch, apparently it's better if you use invisble thread in the bobbin, you shoud be able to get the stitch from your manual, its no 24 on my ancient computerised janome. Otherwise try the elna/janome site where you should get a picture of the stitch and maybe match with your model?

I was shown how to do it on my Bernina but I was NOT impressed with the result. I occasionally like to do a big stitch which really isn't that difficult to learn.

I have a Pfaff 7570 with that stitch. I have to put invisible thread on top. I tighten the thread tension a lot and use a slightly longer stitch. It looks like hand quilting on both top and bottom. I also position the needle so that it stitches 1/4" to the side of the seams so it looks like hand quilting. I think you may just have to play with stitch lengths and tension to get the look you want.
