Have you ever "renewed" or "extended" a magazine subscription and then wondered if you really received this??

Fons and Porter site has a warning of what to watch for:

http://www.fonsandporter.com/aspx/fo...spx?pageid=190

They have a picture of one of these "bogus" renewal "bills" on that page.

I have received these, and now I wonder how many I sent in for renewal!!! They are from "billing companies" or clearing houses instead of from the actual magazine company, and charge more for the magazine than the real company does. (Of course they keep a large portion of the subscription price, and IF you do get the magazine it costs you more, so it is bad for you and bad for the Magazine Company.)

So from now on I guess I will double check who sends these renewal notices and deal only with the Magazine itself!!!

(This problem exists with ALL magazines, not just quilting magazines.)

Thanks for the heads up!! You know that's just plain WRONG!!! I just get so aggravated with individuals that take advantage of others. Hope they get caught and put out of business.

I've gotten so many of those before. I always toss them.

I don't have any magazine subscriptions, but my husband gets golf magazine, and he renewed in June for two years. He was getting "renew now or your subscription will run out" letters from these companies before the first of the year. He still has until June 2011 before it runs out. You can find that info on the address label!

My father in law just found this out to be true with Readers Digest as well. He renewed and when he checked on it, Readers Digest had no record of his renewal! It was "Readers Service" that roped him in! Fortunately, he had time to cancel it on his card before it could be charged.

I just got a "renew now and get a free year" from Frans & Porters, direct on my new magazine. It doesn't renew until December. I'm not even the one that has paid the subscription since I get it for Christmas from PIL. Look at the address label to find out when your subscription expires. One year I didn't check well on one of my son's car magazines and ended up extending his subscription for 4 years. Now days, we really need to watch what we are doing.

The ones that come with the magazine are OK. It's the ones that come from another Company name and address that are suspect. I will just make sure that my renewals go to the magazine companies directly, not thru a third party.

Just thought I'd share this info with everyone. Some of you were already wise enough to know this, but I wasn't until I read it. :D :D

I agree that the third party ones are the worst. What made me mad about the one I just got was that my subscription doesn't renew until Dec. They are already trying to get me to renew 10 months ahead of time. If you are not careful to pay attention, a person could renew now and they would still send you a renewal in Oct. Then it's possible to renew AGAIN. That's what I did with my son's. I was so annoyed at myself.
