I'm making a baby quilt for a friend, and want to do something other than my usual random stippling ... here's my question - how do I "close" the thread after the sewing pattern that I do? Do I just pull the top thread to the back of the quilt and tie it off? I don't want to do backstiching on the front of the quilt if I can avoid it. Thanks! - Beverly

You start and finish the same way as a longarm pro.

Needle up, needle down, needle up, pull bobbin thread to the top and leave about a 4 inch long tail. Tie a square knot twice, put thread ends thru a needle, put needle into same whole as your last stitch (or very close to it) weave the thread ends thru the batting, bring needle out and cut threads where you exit the fabric.

I have read that you take 2 to 3 sticthes in place, and that will secure your stitches. God bless. Penny

That's what I do - pull bottom thread to top to start, stitch in place, sew, then stitch in place at end.

I stitch in place and have not had any problems.

instead of stitch in place, try 5 or 6 tiny stitches. Most will not notice and you can just trim short and not have to bury anything. Sometimes when I stitch in place it forms a knot on the back of the quilt.

A quilt instructor suggested, like Pam, to shorten the stitch as you begin and when you end. And it works.

I like to take a few little stitches at the end. It works for me.
