I'm due November 18th. I don't know yet if my baby will be a girl or a boy. But I thought I would start on it now as I can give it one day a week to devote to it.

I'm looking for baby neutral colors and a fairly simple pattern. But I was thinking of maybe fall colors since it will be born in November.

Thanks! Of course when I start I will keep everyone updated with pictures.

Best Wishes on the new baby. Using printed animal blocks. Most of them are for both boy or girl

IMO, teal is a bit too girly, but what about the lime green and chocolate that's so in fashion right now?

I usually do a simple pattern for most of my baby quilts, using a focus/print fabric and a solid or TOT or small print coordinate. I've made a checkerboard center (like 5x5 blocks about 5-6" square) with an inner border of 1 to 2" and an outer border of 4 to 6" to make a quilt around 40" square. Sizes just depend on how much I've got of each fabric plus the print size of the focus fabric (I like the border and the squares to be big enough to show them).

I usually make the quilts between about 40" square up to 40" x 50".

Other simple quilts would be to alternate a four patch block (or other simple block - pinwheel, hourglass, 9-patch, etc.) with a large square with just a simple 1 or 2 borders.

Why don't you try image googling "easy baby quilts" and find some that you like? You can also image google on color - say "chocolate lime green quilt" or whatever colors you're thinking about to give you more ideas.

I love bright colors for baby quilts. I read an article once that said babies who are surrounded by bright colors are more alert and tend to be smarter. The bright colors stimulate their brain. A disappearing 9 patch makes a nice quilt. You could use a nice focal fabric with animals and then tot or solids for the other parts. Congratzzz on the new addition to your family, I hope you have a healthy happy little bundle of joy.

Thanks for the links. I really like That's my Baby block and Autumn Tints.

I think I will try and find a print novelty fabric and design it around that.

Can't go wrong with scrappy either, also fat cat site has lots of very cute baby theme patterns.

thank you for the links. I bookmarked the shooting star one. Would be really cute as bright scrappy quilt.

I personally tend to make baby quilts in primary and secondary colors. Babys and toddles love red. Remember Elmo on Sesame Street?

One of my favorite baby blankets was just two pieces of fabric sewn together and turned right side out. One side was flannel, one side was seersucker. This made one side snuggly & warm feeling, the other side felt cooler against the skin. This blanket went everywhere. It was great in the summer when you go from outside to airconditioned stores.

Have fun creating quilts and other items for your baby.
