Quick question, when directions say to cut a 1 1/2inch binding, does this mean that you cut a three inch strip and fold to create a 1 1/2inch binding or do you cut a 1 1/2inch strip?

If the directions said that exactly, I would cut a 1 1/2" strip...but I've never done a binding that thin...I always cut 2 1/4"...no matter what it calls for. But thats just me.

1 1/2" inch strips would only give you a finished binding on each side of 1/4" maximum. That seems awfully narrow for a quilt...
Cutting it 3" for a 1 1/2" binding strip seems a bit wide. I cut mine at 2 1/4" like sandpat for quilts, runners, etc... |
I cut my bindings 2-3/4" wide fold in half press and sew loose ends to quilt front sew around quilt - sew to back of quilt by hand. They always turn out perfect.
|
I also sew the binding on with a 3/8" seam allowance.

Wow, that's narrow. I think that's what I used on the doll quilt, and let me tell you - it was a bear to pull to the other side. The mitered corners were the worst and don't meet my normal standard. I usually use 2 1/4" for binding.

That would be a very narrow binding. I would want mine wider.

That might be a mistake in your pattern? Is it for a wall hanging? Single fold would still seem wide to me at 1 1/2".
|
That is very narrow!
