I bought a piece of material at Goodwill that I thought was cotton, but when I washed, dried & ironed, I'm guessing it's a cotton/polyester blend. There were hardly any wrinkles and it gave off an odor when ironed that made me think it's a blend.

I wash all my fabrics, but not batting and I wonder how using this fabric with other all cotton fabrics in a quilt will turn out. Any thoughts/experience with doing that?

If not a quilt, what are some other projects I might use this blend in? I don't sew clothes :D

you can use it- many of us use plenty of mixtures of fabrics in quilts that turn out great- pre wash all of your fabrics- and it will be fine-
lots of blends make wonderful quilts- even paired with batiks,
flannels
corduroys
calico's
homespuns
wools
and even silks

i would use a good quality poly batting- like dream poly- or even hobbs 80/20

no reason not to use the fabric if you like the fabric

I think it will be fine to use it. Look at what they used long time ago. My MIL would use anything she could get her hands on and most of her quilts have been around for a long time.

I've used poly/polycotton blends. They hold up really well.

wow... I did not know you could use blends... now even more bargains to watch for at the thrift store.

I passed up some stuff last time I was there because it was not 100% cotton.

I don't mind blends, I just thought quilts had to be all cotton, or all blends, did not know you can combine them.

You can use them! Just remember to adjust the temp on your iron.

The way I look at it is if it will hold up until I'm gone, I'm going to use it! I'm sure that some of the fabrics I have used along the way have been blends & I didn't even pay attention. Wonder if maybe that will be what will happen with the cotton market going up so much. Will we be seeing more blends to use?

I bought some red, white and blue fabric from ebay before I knew how to read ads. Quilting fabric doesn't always mean 100% cotton. I used some of it in a quilt and it worked up just fine. One strip that won't wrinkle when washed. If it has a decent weight so you can't see through it, then use it.

Thanks! I think I'll use it with other fabric blends. I believe I have some other pieces of fabric that fooled me into thinking I was buying 100% cotton.

Blends wont hold as crisp a pressing as cotton will, also.

Totally okay to use.
