Does anyone know how to go about making a tied quilt? I have seen them and they don't seem to have as much sewing as a regular quilt. Can anyone please help me with this?.

Hi Pammy,

Tied quilts can save a lot of time and look very beautiful. A friend of mine does a lot of baby quilts that way. She uses embroidery floss to stitch down & back up thru the layers of the quilt (the quilt top, batting & bottom) & ties it in a knot on the top side & trims the floss to about 1/2" length. She usually spaces them about 4" apart throughout the quilt (I suppose that could vary). Sometimes she finishes the quilt with binding & sometimes she turns the quilt & top stitches 1/4 inch or so from the edge for a nice finish. If you want to turn the quilt I believe you would want to turn it before doing the ties. Hope that helps!

I made a minkee quilt for my granddaughter and tied it with silk ribbon. The silk ribbon pulled through the fabric easily.
