I need to mark a quilt for echo quilting...does anyone have an easy method. my DD suggested using the bias 1/2" bar for a guide. I haven't marked a quilt in quite awhile without a stencil. any help?

I usually just eyeball it if I am echo quilting.

Me too, eyeballs look at it so eyeballs can judge it!

I use masking tape....comes in lots of different sizes and is reusable.

I have a half inch ruler and it has a line down the center. I put the line on the seam and then mark on each side of the ruler. I have a blue marker thing that wipes off with a wet cloth when done.

I've thought of masking tape, do you have any residue?
|
I have had residue left on a quilt from masking tape. Believe it or not, I got less residue out of blue painter's tape. I use a small ruler and school white chalk when I echo quilt.
I want to get a blue water soluble pen soon as I'll be doing more and more handwork and I think I'm finally ready to dip my toes into stencils and other nifty designs. M |

No, I have not have any problem with residue but I don't let it sit on my quilt for any length of time. If I can't finish the area I taped, I remove it. Painter's tape is good too, but not sure what sizes are available. |
