I am about to start hand quilting a new piece. The fabric is very dark brown, so I used a silver pencil, then yellow pencil to mark my stitching lines. When I put the fabric in the hoop, it is fine, but I am noticing that all my quilting lines have almost disappeared from the rest of the quilt.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to mark the quilt ... perhaps with something that will wash out, but light colored enough to see on the dark brown? Thanks so much! |
Clover offers a marking tool for dark fabrics, it's called "White marking pen".

stay away from yellow many have problems with it.
The ceramic mechanical pencil sold under SewLine, Fons and Porter and or Collins works well on dark fabric. Use the white. Marks with a fine line and erases and ashes out. But don't use yellow. |
slivers of soap work well on dark fabric and wash out really well. the down side is that usually it's not a fine line.

I was in Joann Fabrics yesterday and saw a can of June Tailor spray markings for stencils. One for light fabric and one for dark fabric. I didn't need it, but thought it is a possibility for next time. Supposed to wash out. Of course I would test it first. It is pretty expensive - $11.99 a can, but the can is big and the coupon would work.
