Does anyone have favorite marking pencils or markers for someone with sight problems? I need really dark lines and am, unfortunately, a perfectionist. The blue water soluble markers only work well on light colors for me.

I use old soap bars, to mark on my quilt tops, You know when the soap gets down to the last skinny piece. It maks well and is washable, I only use this on dark fabric, and heres another FYI, Try using Crayola washable makers. they are cheaper in the long run then the other washable makers for quilting. As well as a variety of colors, And you get 8 to a box.

Oh and yes they are washable, I use them and I make all my quilts washable.

Becky--Wow! I love that idea of the washable markers. I'm definately gonna pick up a box. I've had great luck with the kid's washable glue sticks when doing applique or tack-basting quilts...lots of those kidlet products are more reasonably priced than the "big people's" versions! :D

Thats a great idea. Thanks, NJBarbara

Thank you sooooooooooo much. I have wondered about washable markers. What a great tip. I will try the soap, too.

I've had good and bad results with the markers.....I'll test some and report back

When marking dark fabrics, I prefer to use the pen made by Clover - "White Marking Pen (Fine)". As you make your lines, you see nothing. Wait about ten seconds and your line will appear and will stay and stay and stay until you either spritz it with water or touch with an iron. It is a little pricey ($5-6) for a pen but well worth the investment. -- I believe Dritz has attempted to copy it, but I found it very unsatisfactory. Go with the Clover. Suzanne

Thanks. Another great tip.

Suz, I too discovered the invisible pen. That's what I thought it was at first. It doesn't seem to last long but it is the only thing I found to work. The chalk brushes away before I'm finished and I can't sharpen those waxy pencils because they always break. This pen with liquid ink is the way to go.
kathy ( I think Clover should send us some coupons or something because they get a lot of free adertising on this board.) LOL |
