Has anyone been to Marshall Dry Goods in Batesville, AR and Mary Jo's Cloth store in Gastonia, NC? How do they compare? I'm going to Mary Jo's in November and Marshall Dry Goods in December. I have a limited budget trying to decide how to divide the funds. Thank you

I haven't been to either, but would love to go to both places. Please let show us what you buy from each place. Have fun shopping.

Never been to Marshalls but have been to Mary Jo's and can't begin to tell you what a pleasure it was! I spent over $400 - and had no intention of doing so! But the price and quality and selection was incredible! One word of caution, buy all you need while there. I decided I needed a couple more yards of a certain fabric when I got home the next day. Called them and even sent them a picture of the fabric and it was all gone already - and it was a full bolt I bought from!

Marsye, who used to be around the board all the time, LOVED Marshall's! She had been several times and couldn't say enough about it.

I seem to remember Eddie has been, too, and liked it.

I live about 25 mins. from Mary Jo's. Love this shop. So much to choose from and the prices aren't bad. The sales people are very helpful.

I have purchased tons from Marshall's, no one has prices like theirs. My problem is I order most of my material online, live in a VERY small town. I always buy 100% cotton, but some are good and some are not worth a dime. I wish there was some way of knowing the quality before ordering.

My friend Shirley and I just got back from both Marshalls and MaryJo's.I had also been to Marshalls in June. Spent way too much both times. In my opinion Marshalls has the best price on fabric. I did not really buy much fabric at MaryJo's although they do have a lot more to choose from. They probably have anything a person could be looking for. I do believe they have the best price I have seen on notions.. rulers, interfacing etc.

I live about 2 hours north of MaryJo's I love to go there. Their fabric selection is incredible and prices are pretty good. I always buy too much. I hope I get to go atleast one time before Christmas.

I just got back from Marshalls and was in fabric overload!!! You do have to watch the quality of a few fabrics, but most are top quality with extremely LOW prices. I just wish that there were one closer to my home. But then again I would be continually broke LOL Let us know what you decide. :D

I buy from Marshall's online all the time. I would be in A LOT of trouble if there was an actual store near me!

lindagor 10-27-2010 03:27 AM

I made a special 3 hour drive to go to Marshall's Dry Goods and it was worth it! I got lots of Thimbleberries and other name brand cottons at a great price. I think it was $2.99 a yard. They have backing fabric prepackaged that is very nice as well and I used one and was very happy with the result. I don't know about the other store you mentioned.

I've never been to Marshalls in fact I'm just hearing about it from this message. I have though been to mary jo's and I'm saving my money to make another trip with 2 friends. Also we go to Long Creek Mills for threads etc. You need a list when going and they dont have carts so be prepared to tote your bolts or bring DH with you.

I sent you a PM but noticed you have not picked it up yet.

Just got out of Marshall's! I was really good - only spent $200 but got Kaufman, Windham, Marcus Bros, etc.. I was so excited about the Kaufman at $3.99/$3.29 a yard....

I COULD have spent a whole ton more but it's hard to keep a budget in such a place! I was afraid I'd be overwhelmed and I was! I did not go over on the wholesale side - I was afraid to!!
