Different patterns- different fabric requirements
Do you want the quilt to just cover the mattress? Hang down? How much?
We would need more information.

There are many types of battings, cotton, poly, cotton/poly, wool, silk, bamboo...

Fabric and batting prices are all over the place, it depends on where you choose to buy them from.

I know this isn't much help to you, but if you could post a pattern, we can help you a bit more  :D:D:D

Welcome Patsy :) It all depends on the pattern you choose to make your quilt--how many colors? How many pieces? What kind of borders? Maybe if you could tell us the pattern you want to make, we could help give you some estimates.

Hi Patsy and welcome to the board!
Your questions are a bit hard to answer w/o an idea of what type of blocks etc.
King size is really big!!!!!!! I made one last year and hope it lasts forever lol

I'm making a quilt for my DGD that will be king size. I spent $100 on fabric for the top but that doesn't count the batting and backing..... and I used muslin for a lot of it and muslin is cheaper than 1st quality fabric. I also tend to buy more than the pattern calls for..... just in case I make a blooper and need a little extra. I think I'll have enough to make a pair of pillowcases.
