Michael Zahs came and spoke about feed sacks.
Wow! Who knew there was so much to know about feed sacks? All the uses, the marketing of fabric, the high thread count? Waste not, want not.
I would have never thought that people made underwear out of feed sacks. Nor, would I have known that it took 3 feed sacks from 100 lb. corn bags to make one dress for the average size woman.
That must have been when women started "going to town" instead of the men. Who would have wanted their husband to pick out the fabric for their dress?

Does anyone have any interesting stories about feed sacks?

When I was a child my Granddad would take each of the grandkids to the feed store and let us pick out our favorie feed sack based on the color or design of the fabric. We were so excited when our turn came around. Dresses were made for the girls and shirts for the boys. Then my grandmother would save the scraps and make beautiful quilts. Thanks for the memories.

Nope no interesting stories but my earliest dresses as a toddler were feed sack----------real feed sacks.

The next feed sack show is the last Friday and Saturday of April at the Ainsworth Opera House...in Iowa.
They show a bunch of feed sacks and then have a community dinner.
