Just had someone email me with the question of how to remove mildew from a quilt. Her daughter was traveling by car and somehow her two quilts got wet and mildewed. Anyone have any ideas?

There seem to be a lot of answers out there, but this pretty much summarizes them:

First wash as you normally would. If there are still stains, make a paste of lemon juice and salt, apply to the quilt, and let sit in the sun if possible. Then wash.

I soaked my mildewed wedding dress (what a disaster!!!) in Oxy-clean overnight, and it worked wonders. You can not even see where the mildew was. It worked great.

I've used lemon juice and sunshine for years to get mildew and "unknown" stains from the boys clothes, etc. I never used salt with it, just pour pure cheap store brand lemon juice on the stain, hang or lay in the sun and leave it hang until you see no stains. Then wash as normal. I've never had it weaken or bleach out the fabrics, but if you're worried about that, test it first on a small patch.
