Mini Charm Packs

I have noticed mini charm packs on some of the fabric web sites. Has anyone used them? How would you use them? I want to buy some but I need a reason!!!

lauriejo 10-01-2012 05:07 PM

You mean just wanting them isn't a reason????

barny 10-01-2012 05:11 PM

No, you have it all wrong. Fabric-aholics is a reason to buy fabric. Nothing else matters. Reason isn't in our vocabulary.

Hahahaha! No kidding! :D

I just got a mini charm pack as a gift for ordering from someone - I made a little tiny twister quilt out of it. I put two layers of batting in it to use it as a hot pad or wall-hanging - it's pretty stiff.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't use pre-cut squares - I'd sew strips of the desired width together lengthwise and then cross-cut the pieced strips, rather than sew the individual squares together. But I have a kit to make a Christmas tree quilt from those mini charm squares, so I guess I'm going to sew little blocks one more time, anyway. :)

Might be cool to collect mini charm packs to make a "postage stamp" type quilt, though. I'd wait and see how many fabric lines Moda is going to put into this size, though. It looks like Turnovers and Honey Buns are almost gone - I'm SO glad I bought the ones I wanted before they eliminated those pre-cuts.

Never cared much for the turnovers but I do like the honeybuns. Didnt notice they were getting rid of them. Postage stamp quilt is a great Idea. The have them is Kansas Troubles and I a sucker for that!

I just received two of them when I ordered from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. She is designing some small items for them such as pincushions and mini quilts.

If you go on eBay and enter quilting fabric lots into search you can get hundreds even thousands small pre-cuts fairly cheep. They are usually 2"x2", 3"x3" or 4"x4". I was looking at them yesterday but since I really do not like working with small pieces I did not bid on them.

Here is the copy of one eBay post: "Massive 7,300+ Lot of Vintage Fabric Quilt Blocks! Each square measures 3". These blocks were meticulously cut by a woman suffering from*Alzheimer's. This was a project to keep her busy, and busy she was! They were counted by adding the total of one stack and then multiplying. I came up with 7,430, but to be on the safe side I am listing this count. There are too many of these squares to get pictures of all. They are in excellent condition. Package weighs 11+ pounds!*" current bid is $62.50 with shipping cost of $18.58. I am not related to nor do I know the person selling this.

Sounds like a good idea! get some!

Oh, Maureen, you'd be happy in my stash, then - Kansas Troubles is one of the lines I collect. I've even bought scrap bags - last time I bought four scrap bags and two of them were heavy with darks and two of them were heavy with lights. How lucky was that? :)

I have one log cabin planned in KT Christmas prints honey buns. I love that most of the cutting is already done. :) Sorting the fabrics is going to be the most tedious part of this one.
