Can any one tell me is it OK to mix Batik and Traditional Patterned Fabrics together in the one quilt?
Has any one done this before? Would this look strange? |
yes and there are no rules when it comes to your quilting. You can choose whatever fabrics work for you!!!
You can do it....we won't call the quilt police
absolutely mixable. Batik (usually) is just another cotton.
I watched a program with Edyta Sitar, who makes fantastic quilts and she mixes them all the time. If she can do it, that makes it OK in my book.
Absolutely!! Only one small word of advise. If the pieces you are going to work with are very small (1") then will have to pay very close attention to your 1/4" seam allowances. You could have a slightly different 1/4" allowance when you match batik to batik, batik to reg cotton, and reg cotton to reg cotton.
If the pieces are larger you won't notice as much. |
Always remember, the quilt police don't know what they are doing. Most of the time they are not quilters. Besides, IT IS YOUR QUILT. Do what you want. I have mixed batiks and regular fabrics often and am always pleased with the outcome.
I do it all the time. It's your quilt you can make it however you want.
sure it's your quilt.
no quilt police here. |
SHHHH...doing it right now...again.
