Just wondering if anyone out there prefers Moda Marbles over Maywood Shadow Play - or vice versa.
Moda Marbles are more well-known but they are printed on a thinner cloth. Shadow Play is on the nicely thick 60x60 cloth that many quilters prefer. Have you heard of both fabrics? Used both? What do you think of them? |
I love the maywood shadow playes...

I stopped buying Moda Marbles when they went to thinner cloth; don't like it at all. I do, however, miss having marbles on hand and the batiks I have substituted can get a bit pricey for some applications. I'll have to check out the Maywood line. Thanks.

Shadow Play doesn't come in as many colors as the Moda Marbles, but a lot of their colors are pretty much the same. I have color cards for both lines.
Now that Moda has raised their prices on the Marbles to within 5 cents of the Shadow Play, well, that also enters into my decision as a buyer for our store. Moda still ships for free (and very quickly); that is a point in their favor. |
I haven't heard of the Shadow Play but I have Moda marbles and I like them :)
I also love those Robert Kaufmann ones but I can't think of the name! |
I use Shadow Play alot - my local quilt store carrys them and they really work well - good cotton fabric.

I prefer Shadow Play to the marbles. It seems to be a better fabric and I love the texture it adds toa quilt.
|
I have used a lot of the Shadow Play fabrics. They are a heavier weight compared to the Moda Marbles. There is less variation of color in the Shadow Play fabrics, not as much mottling as the Marbles.

Maywood Shadowplay fabrics are on sale at Fabric Depot.com for $6.50/yd!

I have both. Moda comes in more colours, although the fabric is, as you say, thinner. I really love Timeless Treasures Marble Mania. This is a much "beefier" fabric, lovely to work with, but they don't seem to have the colour range of the Moda.
