I tried it for the wallhanging I just made for a wedding... but I wish I hadn't... The ends are very poky and scratcy...:x Good thing it was for a wall hanging and not a regular quilt or I would have been very very very upset to have to rip out the seams... So does anyone here use it and for what?

What brand did you use? I have used YLI monofilament with good results. It is as fine as a strand of hair (.003mm, I think). This is what Harriet Hargrave recommended in a class I took.

I never noticed pokey or scratchy ends; however, I have always used it in continuous designs that did not require starts and stops, so thread ends were always at the edge of the quilt sandwich and later covered by binding.

Personally, I don't like it so I don't use it.

The Poly is so much nicer than the Nylon. It doesn't feel pokey at all. I used it on a quilt that I had trouble selecting a thread color on and was quite pleases. I used the Sulky brand.
