my mother in law sent me these fabrics for my birthday in 2009, and i had it done by the end of the month, and quilted that year before christmas so it could go on my bed!! and i used the bamboo batting, its expensive, but i love it!!, even with the warm n natural, it was so heavy, queen size weights your toes down, i needed another blanket! not with bamboo!!

MamaBear61 08-15-2011 11:11 AM

Your MIL has great taste in fabrics and your quilt is beautiful.

PurplePassion 08-15-2011 11:12 AM

Wow , that is beautiful. Nice MIL. My ex-MIL just complains about all the crap I have in my house and mess in the yard. She lives in AZ , so I don't see her very often . And she doesn't have much of a garden. And doesn't do any crafts.

merrylouw 08-15-2011 11:12 AM

It's lovely. I'd love to see the whole quilt, if you can post it. Cool colors!

katz_n_kwiltz 08-15-2011 11:15 AM

when i find the pic, ill post it!! thanks!

Bueniebabe 08-15-2011 11:23 AM

My husband complains I have sewing and craft stuff everywhere. I just tell him not to let the door hit him on the way out. He has a shed full, basement full and 4 guitars, 1 violin and 2 amps in the living room.

Love your quilt colors.

ptquilts 08-15-2011 11:24 AM

nice quilt, nice MIL!! Mine used to give me "heirlooms" from her house, they always seemed to be cracked or broken in some way...

Jim's Gem 08-15-2011 11:36 AM

It is beautiful!

Nanamoms 08-15-2011 11:37 AM

Nice! My MIL never gave me much of anything. So now I try to be the best MIL to my 2 great DDILs!!

Stitchnripper 08-15-2011 11:44 AM

Nice indeed

lynnsim 08-15-2011 11:54 AM

What a nice MIL! My MIL didn't give me much either; however, she gave me the best DH so I can't complain.

Jingle 08-15-2011 11:56 AM

Beautiful, I made two quilts using that same butterfly fabric.

mom-6 08-15-2011 12:03 PM

Wish my DMIL was still around. She gave us a lovely hand pieced and hand quilted GFG for a wedding gift. It survived daily use and many washings for almost 3O years. We shared a love of all kinds of crafts. Unfortunately I did not start quilting till after she had passed on.

Vanuatu Jill 08-15-2011 12:06 PM

How lovely! She must be a quilter as well to pick out those great fabrics together! I too, would love to see the whole quilt!

debbieumphress 08-15-2011 12:06 PM

Great gift from MIL. My MIL used to quilt so she has a few we will get handed down to us eventually. In the mean time, I can look at her house. She has several of my hand quilts too. Nice fabrics and nice gift.

Too bad you didn't have a MIL like I was lucky enough to get. This sweet old Portuguese lady I don't think ever sewed on a button, and was rather confused about some of my hobbies, but she lovingly bragged on what I did anyway, and even slipped my 2 daughters (her step DDs) money when I wasn't looking.
RIP, Eugenia...miss you always. And she also gave me a marvelous husband.

montanajan 08-15-2011 01:12 PM

Love the colors - pretty quilt.

craftybear 08-15-2011 03:02 PM

love the fabrics, thanks for sharing with us

Lois-nounoe 08-15-2011 07:19 PM

I too would like to see the whole quilt! I love butterflys! My hubby doesn't really complain about all my stuff taking over our small Double Wide home. We had a 24' x 24' shed built to hold all my stuff but hubby's stuff took over and I can't reach any of MY stuff that is still out there! I am patitioning for a shed of my own with a key that only I have! (maybe then I can reclaim my living room, den, and even the spare bedroom so I don't need two days notice when we get the once a year overnight company!)LOL

sueisallaboutquilts 08-16-2011 03:13 AM

I'm glad my MIL doesn't buy me fabric- it would be one scary looking quilt LOL
Yours is beautiful!!!!!!!!!

I do not know whether I am lucky or unlucky, but even being married twice, I have never had a mother in law. Both had passed away before I married each time.

gramquilter2 08-16-2011 07:34 AM

Bright, colorful quilt that will have special meaning because the fabric came from someone that loves you.

grammysharon 08-16-2011 07:39 AM

Love the fabric choices, very pretty!

That is exactly what I was thinking! Nice quilt too!!!

Jeanne Fauss 08-16-2011 08:18 AM

This does bring out the memories of our own MIL's, doesn't it? I don't think my MIL would approve of me spending so much money or time on quilting since you can buy them fairly cheap. But we never did see things the same. Kind of sad. She isn't around anymore to complain about so I try not to just remember the good things. There were plenty of them. Thanks for the pix of that beautiful quilt and I must add you are one blessed daughter-in-law.

I had the MIL from Hell. After hubby died I vowed only to marry an orphan. I did and it has worked out really well.

PolarBear 08-16-2011 09:01 AM

Good for you. I had an awful step-mother, so now as a step-mother I put more thought into my actions! Some of life's tough lessons.

ButtermilkMama 08-16-2011 04:36 PM

Lovely quilt, mighty nice MIL too. Really interested in your comments on bamboo batting. Now I must try it.

I had a great MIL and try to be so to my two wonderful DIL's.

katz_n_kwiltz 08-16-2011 11:22 PM

hello, you said you were interested in bamboo batting,
the only one i have found is by fairfield, and its like $55.00
for a generous queen size at joanns, i wait til jan and get it 1/2 off
love the feel of the bamboo, its a lot softer to touch than plain old cotton, shrinks about the same, maybe cuz its 1/2 cotton.
have also embraced bamboo in other things as well, gardening gloves, socks, who knows what they'll come up with next..
good luck,
katz

Just wanted to thank you for your reply. I also got the best thing IMHO that my MIL had, (her son). BrendaK

pontiac46750 08-17-2011 05:15 AM

Love the fabric. Your MIL did great and so did you.
Your MIL is like mine was. We took quilting classes together. After she passed away my FIL gave me all her quilting stuff plus the quilts she made. Then he went out and bought me a new machine because he saw on a quilt show where they had computerized machines. He thought it would be better. Now they are both together in Heaven and I'm sure they are looking down on all the quilts I'm making with her fabric and the machine he got me.

JabezRose 08-17-2011 05:17 AM

I love the colors and especially love the flutterbys. And just for the record, I loved my dear MIL very much, we were very close friends. She has gone home now but I imagine her sitting there waiting for me with a pumpkin pie, two forks and a can of whipped cream.
