He came home last night as I was cutting up some of his old jeans. He said, are you sure those aren't any good. Well he is the one who quit wearing them. I said yes, they have holes in them. He says you can make quilts, but you can't patch holes. I explained that I quilt for fun, it is my hobby. It doesn't mean I want to spend my time patching holes. Now, I have patched some in the past, and it's not always easy to patch knee holes and pocket holes, and now we can afford to buy him new jeans, when he needs them. He also told me once, that one of the guys he worked with, wanted to know if I would patch some of his jeans, umm no. I work everyday and just don't want to patch clothes. I will sew up some things for the grandkids though, they are special. So anyone else not like to patch clothes.

I understand you completely! I would rather give away a pair of pants rather than hem them ! Give me a king size quilt to sew on anyday!

I do it but HATE it!!

I don't even want to hem my own pants. I used to sew clothes all the time, just don't want to do that anymore.

tell him that asking a quilter to patch is like asking Picasso to paint your garage!

I get my Mom to do it. She loves to feel needed. The boys always need something hemmed or patches and they get Granny to do it. She always puts a treat in the pocket so it is a win/win thing.

If it is a newer pair, I will patch a pair...reluctantly. I open up a side seam and patch the knee if needed. On an old pair, I don't repair because the repair will be sturdy but the surrounding fabric too weak. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Up North, I think you should be able to whip that pair back into shape in no time, lol. If it is something new, and he has torn a small hole or rip in it, I will fix it, to keep it from getting bigger.
