Yesterday my granddaughter and I were sewing just fine on my Janome. One piece went together just as the dozens before had, suddenly the machine made one stitch, and about 3" later, another stitch. No one had touched the machine between the two. I took out the bobbin and case, cleaned the areas (as best I could, I didn't have my kit with me). I also pulled the thread out and re-threaded the upper thread, as well as the bobbin. I took out the needle and replaced it to be sure it hadn't worked loose. I adjusted the tension, both tighter and looser. Nothing helped! Any more ideas?

Unfortunately, the emergency quilt we were working on, did not get done! Grandson left the hospital without his get well quilt. But, thank you Lord, he was only in for about 48 hours, and is doing better (even without the quilt).

Sounds silly, but did it get unplugged? or did you blow a fuse? .
The cord become lose from the machine?

Wondering if it has something to do with the computerized part of your machine if it is computerized.

The belt to the fly wheel sounds like it might have broken or is just worn out.

Oops, just saw I typed "quilt" working instead of "quit" working! Guess quilts are on my mind! LOL

Anyway, the power was still good, it would sew, just not correctly. It just wasn't catching the upper and lower threads together, so on a 6" piece, I would only have 2-3 stitches, inches apart, and they would pull out with the least tug at the thread.

The machine is pretty simple, not computerized.

I guess I could take the cover off and check the flywheel. Hadn't thought of that.

Change the needle? Try a different bobbin? :D:D:D

Check your tension - maybe the frequent sewing caused the knob to wander slightly which would cause it to not pick up correctly.

That's the first sign of trouble on my machine (a vintage Singer). Otherwise, I think it might be a needle problem (I've had that issue as well) - where the needle twists slightly in the "holder", causing it to stitch incorrectly.

Could your needle be in backwards or the bobbin thread unwinding in the wrong direction?
