What should I do? My 4-yr.-old Pfaff 2170 quit on August 22nd and they keep trying to fix it but to no avail so far. The shop is a registered/licensed Pfaff dealer and repair shop. Technichian has tried replacing parts and mother board but still doesn't work. They are shipping it to Pfaff tomorrow. Are talking of me trading for an upgrade but I'm not going for that! Anyone have problems with this machine or do I have a lemon? Have not used it excessively.

CoyoteQuilts 10-25-2011 05:49 PM

Sounds like a lemon, but if it is going back to the factory they will probably find out the problem.

craftybear 10-25-2011 05:52 PM

that is terrible will they give you a loaner sewing machine while yours is being repaired?

the factory may find that it is a lemon and might trade a reconditioned one for it. keeping fingers crossed

medots 10-25-2011 05:59 PM

they should give you a loner,

sewgull 10-25-2011 06:00 PM

Don't be talked into upgrading until you have name for problem. What seems to be the problem with your 2170?
I have 2140 and 7570.

AliKat 10-25-2011 06:10 PM

That would be when I would be thinking "bad words, bad words" because I don't seem to remember what bad words are anymore.

If you bought the machine from that store I would definitely press for a loaner.

Mine was in the shop for two months because they were having problems getting the parts. But now it works like a charm.

scowlkat 10-25-2011 06:47 PM

No way would I upgrade until they resolve the issue you have now! In fact, they should have already offered to replace the machine IMHO! If my dealer took that long, I would ditch them! But I am spoiled. Have been doing business with the same dealer since 1974 and never had any problems! They are wonderful. I drive 150 miles each way to see them!

Where do you go? I live in western KY. Maybe your shop is in between us!!

sewbelle52 10-26-2011 04:10 AM

Well twice they have ordered parts and gotten them within 4 days, so getting parts is not the problem(wish it was). They did not offer a loner UNTIL this week when I said I sew almost every day and Christmas projects are piling up and how stressed I am about that. THEN he offered a loner--after TWO MONTHS!! Getting angrier by the minute! Can y'all tell?

hobbykat1955 10-26-2011 04:59 AM

If it's under warranty let them fix it or replace it.
MY Husq SE started sewing backwards so it's in the shop also. First thing they want you to do is buy an upgrade.
Mine is also 4 yrs old and he couldn't fix after 2 wks and my options were to replace it (upgrade) or fix it which will cost approx 710...circuit bd etc...Let's see upgrade to the compatible machine is a Diamond for 9999 or fix it for 710...GEE...brain teeser...No warranty since I got her via an "Open Stock Sale"...I told him to send her out for the fix. I'll get a 5 yr warranty on new parts.

pocoellie 10-26-2011 05:48 AM

No way for I spring for an upgrade, they are doing the right thing, FINALLY, in sending it to Pfaff, but in my opinion, they should have done that at least a month ago. If you bought the machine from where it's being worked on, then I definitely think they need to loan you a machine.

susie-susie-susie 10-26-2011 06:45 AM

I can't blame you for getting mad. Two months is way too long. I would not go for a trade up either. Hope the factory can find the problem and fix it. I would have been asking for a loaner a long time ago. After that length of time I would have been having withdrawal symptoms.

I would just let them ship it off to be fixed. Is it under warranty?

Annaquilts 10-26-2011 06:48 AM

Four years old and not used extensively. I would say you have a lemon. My Janome 6500 is nearly 8 yrs old and i run it hard daily. No problems. It looks like you have possibly two issues your machine and your repair shop. Hope Pfaff will figure and straighten this out for you. I think having to upgrade a four year old machine because it is broke is rediculous.

A perfect example when having the 'spare' in your closet is worth its weight in gold and then some.....

Willa 10-26-2011 10:52 AM

I wouldn't upgrade unless you were thinking of doing that before this happened.

sewbelle52 10-26-2011 12:14 PM

I DO have a spare in the closet but was thinking at the rate they're going with repairing the Pfaff, if I didn't make them think I had no machine, how long would they take? FOREVER said my DH! And no warranty--it ran out 2 yrs. ago. Went today--1 hr away--to pick up loner. There sat my machine waiting to be fedexd to Pfaff(in pieces). Emailed Pfaff company. They sent back saying they had contacted my shop about the problem.

kayahr 10-26-2011 04:37 PM

Why are you getting a loner if you have a spare machine?

fabric_fancy 10-26-2011 04:58 PM

i wouldn't upgrade but i would let them lend me the upgraded model for me to consider while my machine was being repaired.

[quote=kayahr]Why are you getting a loner if you have a spare machine?

why shouldn't she get a loaner? The machine she may or may not have in the closet has absolutely nothing to do with the Pfaff that's in the shop, does it? And if you think it does - explain how....

I'm sorry that you think I am saying that she shouldn't get a loner. Please don't jump to that conclusion. I will probably find myself in the same position in the near future and would like to know why she is considering a loaner. I'd like to be ready. I don't understand why you want an explanation from me.
