My thread is fraying on top then breaking on me!!! grrr

:( I am in the middle of stippling my queen size t-shirt quilt and my thread which work just fine in the begining is now fraying on top and breaking!!! its happened like 5 times now! My tension was perfect because I have different color on bottom then on top...its machine quilting thread on my janome 1600p....I just dont get it, I am sewing threw logos like I was at the beginning....could it be my needle hole has gotten a sharp edge and is cutting on my thread? Ok I will change my needle and see...anyone have any other ideas what this could be?

I had the same problem, thought it was the thread but no it was the needle. Started using a topstitch needle and problem solved. The eye is longer so not as much tension on the thread. Interesting information on the web that professional companies always use these type of needles for all sewing and quilting. You might want to try. I found them difficult to find in the stores so when I did bought a couple of packs

That seems to happen to me when I get tired, too. I think my motions get jerky or something. If changing needles doesn't help, walk away for an hour or so. It works for me some days.

Make sure you are threaded correctly. Completely unthread it.While you have it unthreaded run a dollar bill through the tension plates. You may have a bit of lint or thread in them.

Also clean out your bobbin case and make sure there are no tiny little nicks or burrs on the bobbin case where the top thread goes around it, good luck, it's a frustrating problem :(

Thanks everyone! it turns out it was my needle, so I am half done and ran out of thread so I guess the rest will wait until Monday night, I'll be sure to post a picture when its done, crossing fingers for next week :)
