Name of fabric

Reading the post of ladies saying the cant remember the name of fabric, my question is where do you find the name of fabric, is it written on the selvage? :(:o

Yes usually it is but not always!!!! If the fabric has already been cut you might not have it anymore. So somtimes we have to see if maybe someone will know. Hope this sort of helps.

If you purchase fabric at JoAnn's, save the receipt. It will have the stock number so you can get more (if you haven't waited too long ;))

This may sound overly organized but here is what I do when I buy fabric.

I have a loose leaf binder filled with lined paper.

Every time I buy fabric I cut swatches about 2" sq and place them in a column down the edge of the paper and sew them to the paper and write any info from the selvage, where I bought and the price/ yardage right next to each sample.

I love to refer back to these pages and enjoy looking at all the swatches. It also gives me the info I need to track down more fabric if I need to.

I also use the 'sew fabric to paper' method when shopping for coordinating fabric to complete a project. I make a copy of the pattern & cutting list and attach it to the fabric swatch sheet of those I have put together for a project, so it is all together when I shop.

This will then go into my quilt history book with a pic of completed quilt with all the info I add like start and finish dates and who recieved the quilt.

Hope this helps you with future projects. This method only takes a few minutes and keeps me organized and prepared.
peace
