While sorting out fabrics as quilting fabrics (to keep) and "garment/home decor" fabrics (to give away), I came across a large stash of poly pinwhale corduroy and velours in gorgeous jewel colors. I was thinking about holding on :wink: to these and perhaps making lap throws. (1) Would I use a light batting or just the top and the backing? (2) Would they work for a crazy patch quilt?

Tell me if I need to hold on to this for another 20 years or should I just let them go? :roll: I wahed and dried them yesterday and they did beautifully?

If you live in a very cold climate I would use a light batting, if it is warmer or they are going to be lap quilts, I don't think I would use any... just my opinion.

I'm in South Louisiana. Not much winter here. We run the AC most of the year.

They would make a beautiful quilt-corduroy is a little more difficult to sew with, likes to move more, but it'll be beautiful.

This corduroy was not difficult to sew with. I made several garments with this very light poly pinwhale corduroy. And it wears beautifully. I made two skirts that washed and dried and were ready to wear again.

Just an idea for the velours might be to make crazy quilt Christmas stockings with embroidery and lace. I've done that with jewel tone velvets, lined them with satin and they turned out simply smashing! I've done corduroy quilts out of my toddler's pants (she's now 37) and used batting, but I'm in northern New England. I would use a flannel 'liner' if I were in your climate, or even just a cotton sheet. It helps protect the seam allowances from rubbing together on the inside.

You definitely need to hold on to them for another 20 years unless you want to send them up here to me!! :lol:

Now that's a thought. At least I know they would be appreciated. Thanks for the tip on the batting'sheet. And I WILL do the stockings. What a great idea. I have a cute little pattern that I use with spiralling. And I have ecru lace that was a skirt I wore in my sister's wedding. Oh, you've got my wheels turning now! Thanks a bunch.

I have mixed corduroy and flannel in rag quilts, and it works beautifully. Corduroy is especially good in a child's quilt, because it has an interesting texture.

Guess that means I won't be getting a package from you, eh? :lol: Have fun with the stockings and don't forget to post pictures!
