Ok, I have the idea down on how to make this type of scarf with multiple layers of flannel. You can use 5 layers, sew down the length of them every 1/2 inch or so, then carefully cut the first 2 layers on each side (for a double sided one)...BUT the big question, since you do want it to rag some, do you wash the flannel first? Have all the flannel, but now not sure about this aspect of construction. Any one with experience in making these that can shed some light on my dilemma?
Thanks. |
I would wash it first.

Thanks....just a thought...Do you prewash flannel for a rag quilt too?
|
Prewash first and once the project is completed. Just be prepared for the "lint" in the dry bin!
|
I wouldn't prewash the flannel for a rag quilt, and I am not sure I would for a scarf either... part of the chenille process is the fraying and shrinking...
You can also make chenille out of quilting cottons...it turns out nice and soft too  |
Amma, Thanks, I didn't know you could do it out of quilting cottons.

I always prewash flannel. It can shrink a lot.

I have done this...using homespuns...not flannels. Personally, I would not prewash. I made my scarf in a class at my LQS at least 7, or 8, years ago. It is very warm and I still get lots of compliments when I wear it.
