Need advice for graduation quilt

I make a quilt for high school grads, for my grandkids. I try to use denim in some way so they would be nice for the dorms. I try to choose a theme that is their main interest. The grandson graduating in May has been on the school paper staff and written many articles and aspires to be a writer. My idea is to take the headlines of those articles in the school paper and transfer to fabric and somehow incorporate them into a block. Any ideas what pattern I could use, and could I use newspaper print fabric somehow, also, in the quilt? One other question, what is the best fabric transfer product you know? I want it to be washable. Thanks for any help. Carolyn

I created a quilt for an aspiring writer and wrote opening sentences for new book writings ex."The ebony horse stood alone in the pasture hoofs flying in the air screaming." Also "Do you believe in love at first sight." Those type of sentences I wrote 18 on my computer in the center of a square and transfered these sentences onto printable linen sold in fabric stores. I used a 4" square for the printing. Then I used a square in a square quilt pattern in favorite colors. If you are using denium you could alternate the different colors of blue jeans for a square in a square. Hope this helps. She loved her quilt!!!!! Illsa

My choice for home printed fabric is Printed Treasures. It's been used in several quilts & been washed more than once. The printing has held up well.
