Love this board and all the helpful hints I've picked up by reading questions from others.

My question is... Would hand quilting and free motion machine quilting look good on the same quilt? I've hand quilted around a center teddy bear on a baby quilt. I'm going to hand quilt baby feet in the corners of the quilt. That leave about 10 - 15 inches around the center that I feel needs some quilting. Can I free motion machine quilt in this area? How do you think it would look to have both hand and machine quilting on the same project?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

I have used both in the same quilt and added a bit of tying and buttons. Anything that holds it together....so go for it :D

I agree with Ruth. I haven't combined Hand and Machine quilting on one quilt, but I have handquilted part and tied other parts and it looked ok.

I have done both in a quilt. I hand quilt in areas where the stitching will be noticed- not where the print will hide the work. If you have areas that the fabric is really busy, particularly towards the outer edges of the quilt- go for it. To me, it makes the outer edges of the quilt very sturdy- good for wear and tear if the quilt will be used and loved. Now, if you are going to enter a competition, I wouldn't. If it is for daily use, go for it.

Thanks for replys....I took the plunge and machine quilted on the baby quilt that I also did some hand quilting. It was a pre-printed top as I had to have a shower gift done in a hurry. I'll try and post a picture of the hand and machine quilting.

I think you did a great job combining the hand and machine quilting. Those precious little feet you stitched into the corners is such a sweet touch. I love it!!

Looks to me as if this is PROOF you can mix hand and machine quilting with style. Love the footprints!!!
