On Friday I resisted the impulse to drive to Channelview and get some $1.00/yd fabric. Instead I stayed home and cut the fabric for a quilt for our 8th grandchild who is due in March. This is a little girl, the first girl after 6 grandsons in a row, so I wanted to make a soft pastel blankie. I put it together yesterday and am trying to decide what to back it with ... minkee or flannel. I think I'm leaning toward flannel because I'm going to have to put some batting in it to hide the seams and I think it'll be too heavy with both batting and minkee.

Next, my quandry is whether to hand quilt or machine quilt. I recently got a Janome Horizon 7000 and would kind of like to try one of the fancy stitches along the seams, but then again I hand-quilted the quilts for all the other grands, so I feel maybe I should hand quilt this one as well. I enjoy hand quilting smaller projects ... to me it's relaxing to do it in the evening.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I love it!

Personally, since you hand-quilted the other g-children quilts and you enjoy hand quilting, I would hand quilt this one also. I would try out the machine stitching on another quilt.

Pretty top. If it was me I'd hand quilt it because you have the others - this keeps the tradition going. But if you're short for time, then machine quilt away :)

If you want to add some batting use the low loft. Nic looking quilt and as other have said I would do the hand quilting.

How about doing some decorative stiching on the top and then hand quilting. Its a very cute quilt.

If it were me, I would back it with minkee and not use any batting. I would tie it. Lucky you...I would love to be quilting for a grandchild!

Beautiful. I would hand quilt.

Beautiful quilt top, I love the texture you have on the front of it with the chenille. I've had several quilts with batting and Minkee for the backing. I absolutely love them. However, for a new born, I agree with you- - it would be too heavy.

love the combo of minkie and chenille. No suggestions on quilting since I only do machine. Whatever you do it will be special for the new babe
