after not even turning on my machine[brother6600]for 10 yrs after my husband died,i decided to try quilting again.bought a 1/4 "foot that i LOVE!problem is,my machine has a left side needle,the foot has a center hole...the second time i forgot to switch,i musthave messed up the timing.took it in to nearest dealer,was told 7-10 days.$69.95to clean,$79.95to adjust&any parts extra.after calling every wk for 4wks,they FINALLY called to say it was ready !drove the 40 min.to pick it up,thank God i tried it at the shop !!!the needle threader didn't work [did when i took it in]NONE of the embroidery stitches worked,the tool holderw/all feet etc was missingthe tension was so far off the bobbin thread was on the top.for this they wanted to charge me $79.95 !!! now they say they have to send it back out AGAIN.needless to say ,i was NOT happy.last words were that if i didn't get it back in GOOD working order in3 days i was picking it up,taking it somewhere else & refuse to pay.the next closest shop is over an hour fromhere....any suggestions about what i can do if they give me a hard time about the charges,do i have a choice but to pay them?HELP

I had a problem with my machine after taking it to an authorized Brother repair shop :hunf: I did pay the shop , as I didn't try the machine before leaving, but took it bask where they SPRAYED oil in/on and around the machine :shock: Still didn't fix the problem :twisted: Called Brother service and they told me I could take it to another dealer and pay again, told them that was not acceptable. So after arguing a bit they told me I could send it to them with the paperwork from the non repair , lodge a complaint against the repair center and they would look at it for free. I still have to send it in., but that is an option for you

Well, then, this is a good time to tell them that you WILL complain to all of the several quilt guilds that you belong to! Let me guess, you are into heirloom sewing, too, right, 2 guilds there! Let them KNOW you will not stand for shoddy treatment! and you are willing to take them down with you.

On the board we kick butt, AND take names! If that machine is not right, go get 'em!

So very sorry for your trouble. Tell them you will not pay for repairs when your machine is worse off than when you brought it in. If they give you any trouble, call AND write the Better Business Bureau, local tv station that helps with problems like this. They don't want their names out there as being non-responsive to customers. They WILL fix it for you. In North Carolina, we have a great Attorney General. He loves to hear about problems like this. Do not shy away from being bold and forceful. It's YOUR machine and YOUR money. Good luck....

If you took it in for them to fix it........why do they have to send it out to be fixed.....that in itself doesn't make good sense to me. If they didn't have a repair person right there that I could talk to they wouldn't be touching my machine.

i am so glad i have such a great repairman--sorry to hear about your troubles but i do agree with the others-let t the quilt guilds know about the shotty work and get ahold of the better business bureau-- we dont have to put up with this S*** our machines are like our kids and we want them taken care of

I have a Brother NS30 and you can change the needle position so when you turn it on it automatically goes to the centre. Have a look in your manual or email Brother and they should be able to tell you how to do it for your machine.
Then hopefully you wont break anything if you forget to change needle position (ask me how I know LOL)

that is not a purpose or function of this board.

we may alert each other to substantiated cases in which we've received poor service or products, but we should do so constructively and only after going all the way through the consumer complaint process. we are the largest quilting board on the net. we do not want to be the cause of somebody losing their reputation, whole business and livelihood. lawyers live for cases like that.

in this specific case, i hope very much that the repair shop does the right thing and fixes this poor machine properly and for a fair price. if not, the next step would be filing written complaints with local and state business bureaus, consumer complaint agencies and the manufacturer.

let's keep our fingers crossed that this will work out for dar. if not, i'm sure she will take those steps. and we'll be right here to sympathize and empathize if she needs to share her frustration.

this might be a little nasty, but I wouldn't pay either if all the parts arent there and they won't help. try talking to the owner of the business. maybe there are some issues he/she doesn't know about.

it wouldn't be nasty to refuse to pay for missing parts. either the parts were there and they lost them (in which case they should replace them) or they were supposed to be there and weren't (in which case they should provide them.)

i like to think i'm a generous, charitable human being. but i draw the line at paying for something i didn't get. or paying them for having lost it. :hunf:

i can lose things all by myself, thank you very much. i don't need "professional" help to do that. :lol:
