I am making a small wallhanging, so in order to make it a little different from everything I have made before, I cut my corners a little circular. Of course, now the great idea comes to cut my strips for binding on the bias, since I am so smart and I know that on the straight grain it will be hard to turn those "corners". My brilliant brains proceeds to choose a fabric. Not much, a fat quarter is more than enough to bind the whole thing. So I lay my ruler with the 45 degree line on the edge of the fold. Yes, you read right, the fold. I make the first cut. Great! I have the first side, so I make a second cut and now have a strip...or so I thought. I picked it up and open it to make sure the strip is not wonky, and I don't have a strip. I have a huge V with a perfect 45 degree angle in the center. I laughed so hard, DH came to see what happened. I am still laughing about it. Lesson learned...don't fold when cutting at an angle. Completed quilt to follow soon.

Thanks for this...I am having a chuckle with you...as it sounds like something I have done...and it is more funny when you just know in your mind that you are really doing something clever....and then, wham!! not so much...sounds good to me in theory, tho... :-D

Cut the angle and then fold
I fold over a corner of the full width of fabric and make the first bias cut, then fold it down. then you don't have the V
Take all those V's and put some fusiable on the back and toss them down on a square, rearrange, put some netting over and quilt it. You will have an original quilt.
Sometime very creative things happen as a result of our mistakes.

Been there, at least it is still usable. :)

I still can't understand why I fell in love with quilting. Geometry was the ONLY class I had to repeat!! Made no sense, still doesn't haha :)
