I know that someone out there can offer suggestions for me on selecting a good "Beginners" book for quilting. I truly need to know the basics since most of my sewing skills were self-taught. I am not afraid to try anything and I learn best thru show and tell. Thanks for any help you all pass my way. What a wonderful group of people you all are :-)

It depends on what type of Quilting you are looking for, Quilt in a Day is one of my favorite, teaches lots of quickie techniques. Can join in block of month here for other techniques, check the search button on top, I'm sure many would come up.
My tip, try to keep seams even !!
As long as you enjoy the experience, thats what matters !!

Do you have a library near you ? I would check them first otherwise you can spend a small fortune on books

I would look for " Your first quilt book or it should be "

I'm a newbie also and a visual learner as well. First, I suggest you take a class. It honestly made a HUGE difference for me. Once you have the basics down, you can learn more easily from a book or video. Then, I suggest the videos on the Missouri Star Quilt Company website. Those are great! Very easy to follow.

Finally, I would recommend a book I just recently bought gently used here in the classified section. It is wonderful.

"Quilter's Complete Guide by Fons and Porter"

I absolutely agree, their pics are good and the write ups are simple and plain.

I'll be the third to recommend the Fons and Porter book. Very informative & easy to understand.

I have the "Complete Guide to Quilting" Better Homes, and it is a great reference.

I also have the "Complete Guide to Quilting" by Better Homes and think it is great. It has photographs vs. drawings which I find very helpful. Also, Eleanor Burns does a great job of explaining and I've never had a problem with any of her simpler patterns.

Alex Anderson has a great book for beginners. Not sure of the name right now. If I run across it, I will post.
