Everyone has always been so helpful, I am going to ask another question.
I recently purchased some free standing lace embroidery patterns. I have Sulky water soluble stabilizer on hand, (and forgot to look to see what Joannes or the LQS had when I was just there) but the pattern says the designer uses Vilene water soluble stabilizer. When I read about it it sounds a lot different than the Sulky product which is clearish, however the Sulky lists lace as one of it's uses. Do any of you have any advice or experience with this? I am really anxious to try this out, and as I am going away for 3 days on business don't have time to go back and see if they have the other stuff. I have looked at Joannes site and they don't list it.

As long as it is water soluble, I use whatever I have on hand. After you wet it, it is your stitching what will hold it up. As long as it doesn't break when you are sewing, it should not make much of a difference. You may be able to contact the company and wet samples. I did a couple of years ago and received them from a few different places.

I like the more fabric looking one for some things, it seems to be a little stronger JMHO Don't forget to save the scraps...put them in water to use as starch for your lace embroidery items

Thanks so much. I think I may just try it with what I have....I guess I am impatient. I just haven't had much time with my machine since returning from New Zealand. Jet lag is a very real problem. But hopefully it is beginning to clear up. Maybe when I come back from my business trip, I will begin to feel more like myself....

The designer prefers that brand. Doesn't mean it's the only brand to use. I also like Sulky Water Soluble stabilizer.

Well....I tried it with 4 layers of the Sulky and it didn't work...it tore. So, I will have to wait until I get the Vilene I just bought on line. Decent price on Ebay. That's ok, no much time or thread wasted. Ho, hum.... :?

Here's what works for me as well as the girls in our LQS - we use the Floriani water soluble - 2 layers - stitch out the design - when done soak in water for about 5 min - take out lay on towel and pat dry. Beautiful lace is what you'll get. Enjoy!
PS. I tried with some that had that plastic look to it and it didn't work it tore and I ended up with a huge knot. Hope this helps.

Once again, thanks everyone!

I will post pics when I get some of these done.
