Need help deciding on a sewing table
My birthday is in December so I usually pick a gift for my DH to buy me for both together. This year I told him I'd like a sewing table. My machine sits on a desk now and it is too high to be comfortable or to use the leg thingy to lift the sewing foot. I'd like something with some storage in it. Most of what I've seen so far doesn't have any drawers.
How important is the adjustable height? Seems like it would be pretty cool for free motion quilting. Any advice you can give, including specific recommendations would be appreciated. I would like to spend less than you would on a used car. :-) |
I have a Sauder sewing table on order(internet) from Walmart($99 shipped to a store). I ordered it because of have 2 Sauder bookcases that are VERY nice.

I recently came across this table and several people on my Janome blog told me they have this table and love it. I am seriously considering it after Christmas because I also need an adjustable table to save my neck. They make tables specifically for all makes of machines and they are quite inexpensive. No storage tho. http://sewperfecttables.com/sewing-tables.shtml

I bought a beautiful, large walnut table from an antique store for my sewing (and cutting) table. I bought an office-type chair so that depending on what I need to do I can simply raise or lower the chair.

The sew perfect table, http://sewperfecttable.com/sewing-tables.shtml, is what I think I am going to get for my ne Juki 2010. I have done a lot of research on this board. There are a variety of good tables to consider....the sewezi table,,http://www.seweziusa.com/ epic furniture, http://epicofficefurniture.com/produ...ducts_id=37901, the gidget 2 http://www.connectingthreads.com/cfT...cfm?id=Gidget2
The sewezi and the gidget are both portable. The sewperfecttable and the one from Epic furniture are not portable. The sewperfecttable is height adjustable, which for me is very important, because I am short and have always sewed at too high a level. Since I have a new machine, I want to get a table so I am comfortable. There are size options with this table as far as surface area, and there is also a front extension and rear extension you could purchase to add to your sewing area. Think about what you want in a table and what is most important to you. Search "sewing table" or even the specific names I listed, on this board and you will read a lot about these various tables, and you can check the prices also. I think the gidget is the least expensive, the other 3 are in a similar price range, 250-300. You can also adjust or tweek or height with an adjustable office chair. I know some people whose sewing surface is at a very high level and they use a high adjustable drafting type chair. I, being short, prefer to be ground level, I want my feet flat on the floor, so it is easier for pedal reach, knee lever reach, etc. I don't want to be coming down off a chair. |
Hi
This doesn't have a lot of storage that you mentioned you wanted but, I use a normal timber dining table that my hubby modified for me so that my machine sits in a well and is flush with the table. It was too high just sitting on top of the table but I find this to be ideal for me. I have an adjustable office chair that I can raise or lower as well if I need any small adjustment. The machine does have a knee lever to raise the presser foot and these photos don't show the knee lever in place because he hadn't drilled the hole at that stage. But he has drilled a hole in the front edge of the table since and it works just fine. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...on-t76568.html |
Janice, your husband did a great job on the table, it looks really nice and sturdy too.

Try one of the computer tables that wind up and down.
