Need help getting started......
 

I have decided that I want to try quilting some of my unfinished table runners using my embroidery machine and designs. I have never tried this before and would welcome any hints/tips for those of you who have done this. Also, if there are any You Tube videos or websites that have good tutorials I would appreciate those as well.

I have over 20 runners that are just waiting to be finished and I need some inspiration to get them done.

That is a very very good site! One of my favs. I have an embroidery machine although I haven't quilted with it. I do have some quilting patterns downloaded as well as some QAYG projects.

pick out designs that are not real dense and have fun you don't need stabalizer just the top, batting and backing enjoy

any red work designs work great and no stabalizer and it goes really fast...

If you want a really quick easy way to quilt (after picking your favorite light stitch count design) you don't need to use stablizer at all, and you don't really hoop the quilt sandwich (stretches out the hoops and even could break them). Use blue painters tape sticky side up on the hoop where you would usually place your stabilizer.... All four sides of the hoop have a strip of tape, and you place your quilt sandwich firmly down against the tape. Run the pattern, gently pull the quilt of the tape, reposition where you want the next design and stitch again. You can get 6 to 8 designs out of one "set" of tape. Retape and go again when the sticky isn't sticky any more. No stabilizer, no hooping, great results.

Love the painters tape idea as my next question was going to be about hooping. So what I get from this is that I need to take my bottom hoop and cut 4 pieces of tape (for all 4 sides) and lay it so the sticky side would be up and then fit my top hoop into the bottom one making sure that enough of the tape is showing so that I can lay the quilt on top of that to "fasten" it down. Is there a certain width of the painters tape that works better?
