Wooly nylon should be perfect for a T shirt as long as it is in your loopers. Your straight stitch should have a regular thread in it. Sometimes a new needle can make a big difference too.

I've used my serger a lot. I almost never use wooly nylon unless I'm doing a rolled hem (only in the upper and lower loopers it is too stretchy for needs and too thick). I also have used ribbon floss in the upper and lower loopers for decorative effects. Play around. It can be fun.

I am fairly new to serging and never used "wolly Nylon". What does it look like when it is used in the serger and why would one use it instead of regular poly?

Wooly nylon is thicker than regular thread and stretchy. It works well on serging knits but you can use any sewing thread to serge regular seams. The wooly is really liked for things like rolled hems because it covers much better than regular thread so you get a nicer look. I have made a lot of dancewear (think of cotton lycra, knit, tulle). I used regular thread for most seams. The only time I remember specifically choosing the wooly was when I was making napkins with rolled hems.
I hope this helps. I am by no means an expert. |
The wooly nylon is for overcasting/finishing a seam. Like you see some placemats or napkins have. Ot perhaps on wool garments as a finished edge. The thread you want is the serger cone thread. There are tons of books out there that would be helpful to you for the settings and thread types. I might even have a spare you can have. Let me know, I will send it to you.
