I am attempting to make a baby quilt with half squares. I have everything cut out and pinned and now need to sew the 2 triangles together.
My problem is that everytime I try to sew from the tip of the triangles my machine pulls the tip of the triangle down into my bobbin area.
What can I do to avoid this? I thought about starting in the middle and going to each end but that seems illogical.
I would appreciate any help you can give me!

Start out sewing on a scrap, then butt these pieces up next to the scrap. Continue on chain sewing them and see if this helps :D:D:D

Are you sure you're supposed to be sewing on the point and not a quarter of an inch on either side of the point?

She's sewing triangles, not down the center of squares, so she is probably sewing 1/4" away. I agree with Amma to use a leader and chain piece. However, in the future, I would try to sew them the way Scissor Queen mentioned and leave them as squares, sew 1/4" away on both sides of the center, and cut it in half after it's sewn.

If they are already cut into triangles, then put needle just inside the two layers of fabric. Also check the needle it might need to be replace as the tip might be dull.

Since your triangles are already cut, then starting on a scrap and chain piecing is the way to go.

True but she wouldn't be sewing on the point (that would be the cut edge).

Thanks, I got it! Having a leader piece really helps alot. I was able to finish all 100 pieces really quickly.

The tutorial I am following has you cut the pieces and then sew them. As mentioned, I read about leaving them as squares, sewing and then cutting. I am going to try that next. It seems a bit easier. But then again, some of the things that I think are simple as pie turn out to be some of the most challenging things!

That is what I like about quilting (very much a newbie) it is a challenge and always keeps me thinking. What seems like a mindless craft to those who do not quilt is really a craft that requires many, many mental skills!

Get some tiger tape. Works beautifully. :)

I find that when I make hsts, it works out better if I cut them a little bit bigger, then I can square Them to the right size for my pattern. Before I started doing them like this, I had edges that were just a little too short. Don't forget to post a pic when you get it together!

I make them bigger and square them up too. I learned that the hard way.
