i got the ruler & quilts w/o corners(book) . i didnt have any trouble, except when i finished, it was like too much fabric!! I used the pattern, "Speedy Spiral " page 18. from the book. instead of a tree skirt i was wanting just a tablerunner, etc.
My question is, what can i do to straighten it out. I thought i would leave one strip out, but it didnt really help! i also tried to take more larger seams, but that didnt help. what did i do wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

sorry, not much help. i would just keep trying to take in a seam at a time and press and see if it lays flat. good luck.

There is a trick to working with so much bias and seams that intersect like this. Number one.... Never scrub iron the seams... Always press and lift and press your seams. Number two, press your seams rotating in the same direction. This distributes the bulk around so the fabric has room to lay flat. I have heard of some women using an eighth inch seam to help with the bulk too.
I have also heard to begin with fabric that is highly starched, that gives you a little lead way helper with all the other things I have mentioned.

I am not sure where my book is at the moment, but could you quilt it more on the heavy side to make it lay flat and nice? Just wondering...

I am looking at the page. An exact 1/4 inch seam is extremly importand and exact cut of the wedges.

When I made the butterfly quilt I cut my strips on the lenght of grain. I starched each strada before cutting and pressed with a lift and set down motion. All these tip will help but the cutting and the seaming are the most important.

thanks to all who answered. i think my problem was, i bought some fabric from wal-mart for the 5.00 flat, is ravels like crazy, is very thin, i should have knowed better, but this was my first one, so what i did was add 3 more strips, & it worked. but now it is 39 instead of 36 strips!! i will try one now with better fabric!! love you all for your help
