anyway i have sewn a few shopping totes but the rip easily in the seems because of the fabric its sewn.
I made it from this because it is so practical when i m out shopping in my electric wheelchair and in this everything will be dry and if i have soda cans in it , well then its not a worry if its spillage and stuff.

However i do need something to make the seems stronger that is my mnain issue.
I was going to give one away to my mum but i have to wait now cause i dont want hers to rip.

You can get some stuff that you can put over fabric to make it like pastic, Walmart has some prepackaged, I think it is iron on. that way they are stronger than plastic,

mm but i have sewn these totes in a palstic like fabric so i was thinking maybe i could use cotton on the seems but i m not sure at all what to do :wink:

this is fabric that is covered, the problem with just plastic, is that the needle puntures it and weakens it so when you put the weight in it, it pulls on them, the more you sew, the more holes.

sunnyhope I would sew a strip of say like bluejean deman are a canvas type materal between where your sewing your seems and that will hold it ..
I made some food tote bags with canvas and three of them that I would use for meats I put in the inside a plastic used from a cut up shower curtain and sewed strips of heavy deman between the seem area and they hold just fine..

I am not sure there is anything you can do to fix it. Like someone said before- the needle is puncturing and weakening the plastic fabric. Is is a plastic coated canvas, or basically just plastic? If it is a plastic coated canvas, maybe a different seaming techinique would help. If it is just plastic, heat sealing rather than sewing would probably be your best choice.

The only thing else that I can suggest is that you go to a nylon fabric, they have a bunch of different weights and they clean up with a damp rag unless a top or something came off, then they would need to be washed, even dirt doesn't stick to it very well. You probably want to use what you have, you can always use it like a lining and have something stronger on the outside.

Heat sealing i think would be very hard doing ,

i m sure that it is a way to fix this, i am thinking of enforicing with jeans fabric, i will try that 2morrow and we ll see how that works.
