I have been asked to make a quilt , using two colors- dark green and burgandy. Can anyone give me any block ideas.? I generally like using lots of color in my quilts ; so this will be a challenge. Thank you , Elaine

Here is a link with lots of block patterns, maybe one will jump out and speak to you! :D :D

You could do a Rail Fence with one color in the middle sandwiched between the other color, and alternate that arrangement, or you could make a "Framed Four Patch" from www.quilterscache.com/F/FramedFourPatchBlock.html and alternate the arrangement in that for variety (or not.)
There are a lot of blocks on the quilter's cache website that are for only two colors. Cedars of Lebanon is another. If you want to get fancy, I recommend Storm At Sea. You should be able to find a pattern for that through Google, or in the book "More Quilts from the Quiltmaker's Gift." Hope these ideas help! |
Has anyone ever thought about the trip around the world pattern? Use a big splash of one of the colors in the middle and alternate the colors after that around the middle.

Duh! I forgot to suggest the pattern I used for my daughter's black and white quilt! It is so easy, I made the top in one weekend.

I vote for single irish chain
:D |
Do you have to use only two fabrics or can you use several fabrics in those two colors?
|
He only wants a 2 color quilt. dark color. He is a very quiet , conservative, strange type of guy.

I tend to agree with Ruth here. I think an Irish Chain is perfect for two colors and it's a very quiet, conservative, older pattern.
|
I agree with quiltmaker101 on the Storm-at-Sea idea. It is stunning in just two fabrics, classic, conservative, and masculine in the chosen colors. If you can expand to more fabrics while keeping the dark green and burgundy colorway, this website has several variations of the block using simple fabric placement changes. http://www.eldrbarry.net/im/meg/sas4var.pdf
Log Cabin would also work well if you can use multiple fabrics in those colors. They don't HAVE to be dark and light. I've seen some stunners in black and red. |
I had made a single Irish Chain wallhanging years ago, hung at the end of a long hall beyond the foyer of a big old farmhouse. I don't think anyone ever came in that didn't comment how they loved the simplicity of the pattern. It was done in cobalt on a dove gray field, looked like old stoneware crockery.
Works up fast, and very forgiving of mistakes, too. |
I never thought of the Irish Chain, but it would be stunning. I agree on that for sure :!:
|
I also concur about the irish chain, it would look great with just 2 colors. I guess I am partial to that one tho.

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for "shadow box". I have looked but can't find one. I'm still a novice at quilting so I hope it isn't too complicated. Thanks, Charlie

I did a google and came up with a couple of links for you. I don't know if this is what you want or not. You might try to do your own search.

Thank you. I will check them out. I appreciate your help..Charlie

Elaine, look at jumperefamily's avatar. It is a pillow, I think, using just red and white with an hour glass pattern. It is very striking and would lend itself well to your color choice. (I don't know how to find jumperfamily's avatar but she has posted quite a few messages.)
Good luck! Joan |
Someone, don't remember who, posted a picture of a quilt in two colors that was a drunkards path. It was beautiful! If you can do curves (O: that is.
|
Charlie, I think the pattern you're looking for may be here. Take a look at the picture in the link. (it is just WONDERFUL!)

I think the storm at sea would look great in those two colors
|
Look at Hunters Star or Drunkards Path (there are different names for various layouts), both blocks are in www.quilterscache.com .

Dear passion...
I vote for the Single Irish Chain also with the burgundy as the background, green as the chain. I also like the storm at sea but it might get onerous with just two dark colors. But what the heck do I know about colors? tim in san jose |
Thank you Joan. That is exactly what I am looking for. Now I just have to find a pattern. I agree... it is so beautiful!
